Solar Dogs and Halos

Can the sun have a dog? How about a halo? Yes, it can. Solar halos and sun dogs are interesting phenomenon that occur when ice particles refract sunlight in the troposphere. I photographed several sun dogs and a solar halo today, see the pics below.

The halo is faint but apparent; the sun dog is on the left at nearly nine o’clock, (12 being the top of the image).

Solar Halo

Sun dogs at 12, 4, and 7 o’clock, respectively. Faint signs of a halo.
