One of my favorite spring activities is berry picking from local farms. With it being well into a warm spring, berries are ripening, specifically strawberries. These berries are very enjoyable, and can be used in a variety of ways, from fresh to jam. If you don’t mind bending over or getting on your knees, strawberries are not hard to pick; I can pick 2 gallons in 30-45 minutes. We washed and refrigerated about a gallon of fresh berries for eating, and chopped and froze the rest. They only keep about 3-4 days in the refrigerator, which is why we don’t keep many out. With some of our fresh berries, my mother made a delicious treat of chocolate-dipped strawberries.
Hopefully in a few weeks, blueberries should be ready too!
